About us
The initiators of Coffeesisters are Ad Velthuis and Robert Wolff, two childhood friends who have known each other for fifty years. Despite the distance, they have stayed in touch all these years and shared news about their daily lives.
Because Robert had started a coffee company in the Netherlands in 2000, they also talked about Lucy’s family’s coffee plantation. Robert had always been interested in the plantation, but knew from experience that you have to be on site every day if you want to import coffee. At the time, that was therefore not an option.
When Ad and Lucy returned to Kenya after twenty years, opportunities suddenly arose. The chance to work with Charles, uncle of Lucy and Mercy, gave the connection with the coffee plantation in Meru concrete shape. The arrival of the new EUDR law also played a role. By then, Robert had a strong management team within his company, so he could be away for longer periods. Step by step, their new adventure became a reality.
With his company Beautiful Coffee, Robert has always pursued a social policy. He has set up and sponsored various projects, including in Tanzania and Sumatra, always with care for people and nature.
Out of his involvement, he wanted to know more about Lucy’s childhood, the current conditions and the hard life on the plantations. This led to the ideas and the concept behind Coffeesisters.
